Wareham May Have Experienced Small Earthquake Overnight

UPDATED - 2.0 earthquake confirmed...

UPDATE at 3 P.M. from Wareham DNR:

3:00PM, 8-21-19 Earthquake Update:

We have just received information from the Boston College-Weston Observatory, Earth and Environmental Service that their preliminary findings show that the Wareham/Onset area did feel a 2.0 magnitude earthquake at approximately 1:30am this morning!

The observatory is currently doing more research on the event and will update us as soon as possible.

From the Wareham Department of Natural Resources...

We have been hearing reports of a loud sound and shaking around 1:30am in Wareham and Onset.

The Weston Observatory, Earth and Environmental of Boston College’s current seismograms do indicate activity recorded around the reported time which may indicate a possible small earthquake. We have attempted to contact the observatory for more info and will update when we hear back!
