A timely reminder from State Rep. Tim Whelan:

Students start back to school this week and next and now is a good time for a reminder about school bus safety. Parents, please remind your children to not walk into the roadway until they are assured no vehicles are coming. Drivers, please remember that flashing yellow lights mean slow down and prepare to stop; flashing red lights mean STOP. A child’s safety depends upon you, so please stop.

Massachusetts General Law Chapter 90 Section 14 provides for the following consequences for violations of failing to stop for a school bus displaying flashing red lights:

1st offense: $250 fine

2nd offense: $1,000 fine & license revocation of 6 months

3rd (and subsequent) offense: $2,000 fine & license revocation of one year

Let’s ALL make sure all our awesome students enjoy safe travels to and from school. Please stop for school busses in accordance with the law.
