Unhealthy Products You Probably Use Every Day

Some may surprise you...

When it comes to our health, many of us try our best to maintain it as best as we can. Eating healthy, staying active, and visiting healthcare providers regularly are the typical activities people think of when trying to lead a healthy lifestyle and avoid health risks. However, there are a lot of everyday products that contain substances that are detrimental to health.

Many of these substances can be substituted with all-natural alternatives you can find online as well as in some stores. It’s best to stay educated on which products are the best to use when considering your well-being.

We’ve come up with a list of some of the most common household products that may be unhealthy when used on a regular basis. You may be surprised at some of the products listed.  Nevertheless, in many cases, there are healthy substitutes that can be purchased online or at some stores.

Deodorant

Unless you’ve purchased an all-natural deodorant, this product can contain many harmful chemicals that can be a detriment to your health in the long-run. For example, many deodorants contain five types of harmful chemicals. These toxic substances are absorbed by the skin and can potentially pose major health risks.

Deodorants may contain toxic substances such as aluminum compounds, steareths, triclosan, parabens, and propylene glycol. These substances that are used in the production of deodorants have been linked to cancer, Alzheimer’s, and other high-risk health issues. You can find more information about these dangerous substances online.

Artificial Sweeteners

Rather than using sugar in our coffee or tea, we sometimes use the zero-calorie sweeteners such as aspartame. This artificial sweetener, which is sold under brand names such as NutraSweet®, SPLENDA ®, and Sweet'N Low®, is considered toxic in large doses and may even be linked to cancer.

Aspartame is composed of the naturally occurring amino acids, aspartic acid, and phenylalanine. Aspcartic acid is produced by the body during the process of making proteins. Phenylalanine is taken from the food you eat. When the body breaks down aspartame, methanol is produced.

Methanol is considered toxic in large quantities. When it is further broken down within the body, a carcinogen known as formaldehyde is produced. This may increase your chances of cancer and even affect brain function in serious cases.

Cosmetics

Many cosmetic products, especially those used by women on a daily basis, can contain harmful chemical substances that can be absorbed through the skin. Cosmetic products such as eye shadow, mascara, lipstick, and concealer can contain numerous toxins. This includes lead, phthalates, and many formaldehyde-producing substances.

These toxins can lead to hormonal changes and problems with fertility, as well as neurological issues. For example, lead, a known neurotoxin, can cause miscarriages and even developmental issues.  Nevertheless, due to great beauty public relations agencies, cosmetics companies are continually able to market their products to the public.

Genetically Modified Foods

Genetically modified foods are produced through the manipulation of genes from different organisms. This is done in farming to produce larger fruits and vegetables at a faster rate. Even aspartame is produced through the modification of certain bacteria. Genetically modified foods, despite their frequent use, have been shown to cause some health risks.

For example, studies done on animals using genetically modified foods have indicated potential threats to the immune system, fertility, organ function, and even insulin production. These potential risks have caused the creation of laws regarding food labeling. Although such products are widely used, it is best to stay natural and purchase organic foods when possible.

Air Fresheners

Although everyone wants a clean and fresh smelling home, air fresheners may not always be the best option. Air fresheners contain phthalates that are used to maintain the fragrance for as long as possible. This substance has been linked to various health issues, including cancer.

Phthalates can be extremely dangerous for babies and young children. In addition to being able to cause reproductive harm in adults, they also pose a threat to children’s development. It is best to find air fresheners that use only all-natural substances.

Staying Healthy

Despite the fact that many people continue to use these products on a daily basis, it’s important to consider the potential side-effects. The best alternative is to find organic and all-natural products to purchase. It doesn’t hurt to have a little caution when considering you or your family’s health and well-being.
