Provincetown, MA, - Homeport Press is pleased to announce the publication of A Fatal Folly by Jeannette de Beauvoir, fifth in the Sydney Riley mystery series, each of which is set during one of Provincetown’s famed “theme weeks.”

In this novel, while the town’s beloved holiday events unfold—the Lighting of the Monument and the lobster pot tree, Holly Folly with its festivities—another excitement grips P’town as an enigmatic Englishman arrives, poised to raise the Mignonette, part of Black Sam Bellamy’s fleet of pirate ships that sank off the Cape Cod coast. But first he raises a more recent tragedy, a fishing-boat that disappeared five years ago, a cold case for law enforcement as the captain was found on land with a bullet in his head. His isn’t the only body complicating the holidays: Sydney literally trips over Pete, one of the assistant harbormasters, who’s been murdered and dumped on MacMillan Pier. How are all these events connected? Sydney will have to work hard to find out, before she finds herself in far too deep.

HomePort Press publisher Arthur Mahoney, says, “A Fatal Folly deftly combines murder, merriment, and pirate treasure in a fascinating tale that unfolds against the backdrop of Holly Folly, Provincetown’s annual holiday event. The fascinating characters and plot twists we’ve come to expect from de Beauvoir are framed by marvelous insights into life in the off-season and raucous moments of family drama.”

Author de Beauvoir captures not just the venues where her mysteries take place, but also the layers through which people experience those venues. Previous titles in the series include Death of a Bear, Murder at Fantasia Fair, The Deadliest Blessing, and A Killer Carnival.

A Fatal Folly will not only appeal to readers of the previous Sydney Riley mysteries, but also to readers of any mystery featuring a strong female sleuth as protagonist.

The author will be appearing on November 29th at 4:00pm at East End Books; on December 6th at 2:00pm at the Provincetown Bookshop and at 6:00pm at Coffey Men (all in Provincetown); and on December 7th at the 3:00 Books & Bubbly event at the Addison Gallery in Orleans. The formal book launch (reading, discussion, and party) is on November 30th at 2:00pm at the Provincetown Public Library.
