Close Call for Dr. Skomal with Breaching Shark

See the Atlantic White Shark Conservancy video...

From the Atlantic White Shark Conservancy:

Footage of a 9 foot female white shark who breached under Dr. Greg Skomal of the Massachusetts Division of Marine Fisheries, working with the Atlantic White Shark Conservancy, as he was gathering underwater GoPro footage of the shark from the research vessel pulpit. This encounter took place off of Nauset Beach on Monday, November 11, 2019. This white shark was later tagged as part of the movement study and has been identified for the white shark catalog.

While out on research trips, we've seen white sharks breach and we've received multiple reports of breaching white sharks in recent years from fishermen and boaters. While encounters like this one are rare, this video shows that they can occur. White sharks are wild and unpredictable animals. This is a good reminder of the importance of following safety tips and always staying vigilant when in or on the water
