MassDOT Advisory: Dennis

• Old Bass River Road Bridge to remain closed

• Route 6 travel lanes open in each direction as today’s assessment of the bridge structure has been completed

DENNIS – The Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT) is announcing the Old Bass River Road Bridge in Dennis above Route 6 will remain closed after being damaged in a traffic incident on Friday evening, December 6. In addition, all travel lanes on Route 6 are now open after a detailed assessment of the bridge structure that began at 6:30 a.m. today was completed.

An engineering analysis of the assessment is being conducted to develop repair options which will be necessary to partially or fully open the Old Bass River Road Bridge to traffic. An initial structural analysis found that two of the bridge beams were severed.

It is anticipated that the engineering analysis will be completed by mid-week.

Full repairs to the bridge will be challenging due to the bridge structure being comprised of steel reinforced concrete beams, restrictions due to winter weather conditions and the close proximity to the Route 134, exit 9 interchange. welcomes thoughtful comments and the varied opinions of our readers.
