Tried to get bank account numbers and other personal information...

From the Harwich Police Department:

Scam Alert

Today we were contacted by a local business owner who said they had received a phone call from a number associated with the Harwich Police Department. When they answered an individual who said they were with the HPD and that they were investigating a check fraud case. They continued to ask information including account numbers and social security numbers. The individual were also very intimidating.

Knowing it was a scam the business owner did not provide any information and came to HPD to report the incident.

The people attempting these scams can clone phone numbers to make it appear to be a legitimate call.
