Vineyard Student Receives Hamilton College Student Travel Award

Another outstanding local student...

CLINTON, NY - Olivia Jacobs, of Vineyard Haven (02568), has been named a recipient of a Hamilton College Class of 1979 Student Travel Award. Established by the alumni of Hamilton's Class of 1979, the award offers financial assistance to outstanding students who seek to broaden their educational experience beyond the Hamilton College campus.

Jacobs will use the award to investigate the use of restorative justice following incidents of sexual harm in institutions of higher education. She will cull expert knowledge by interviewing local restorative justice experts, studying programs currently in place around the country, and reading relevant sources.

Jacobs, a senior majoring in women's and gender studies, is a graduate of Marthas Vineyard Regional High School.

Originally founded in 1793 as the Hamilton-Oneida Academy, Hamilton College offers an open curriculum that gives students the freedom to shape their own liberal arts education within a research- and writing-intensive framework. Hamilton enrolls 1,850 students from 49 states and 49 countries. Additional information about the college can be found at www.hamilton.edu.
