Public Meeting tonight on Pilgrim Power Plant

Nuclear facility asking for a license renewal

Federal nuclear regulators will hold a public meeting at 6 p.m. Wednesday in Plymouth at the Hilton Garden Inn to discuss the safety issues at the Pilgrim nuclear power plant.

Anyone can ask anything of the Nuclear Regulatory Commission staff about performance issues at the plant.

Pilgrim is scaring some folks due to design similarity with the Fukushima plant in Japan, which was pounded by both an earthquake and tsunami earlier this year. Pretty much everything near it is radioactive right now, and nobody wants that happening in Pilgrim City.

Pilgrim suffered an unscheduled shutdown recently. It is currently applying for a renewal of the license to operate. I think that this meeting is a part of that process.
