Romney Routs Santorum In Illinois [Nor'easter Blues]

People Be Smitten With The Mitten

Mitt Romney won big in Illnois yesterday, whipping his rivals in this crucial state.

The Mittser at his victory party in Illinois last night.Romney took 47% of the vote. Rick Santorum took 35%, Ron Paul took 9%, and Newt Gingrich took 8%. Romney gathered up 41 delegates, Santorum took 10, and the others were shut out. Romney needs 1144 delegates to secure the election, and he has like 563 or so.

Romney was able to outspend Santorum 7/1 in Illinois, and 22/1 in the Chicago area. For every time Santorum said "Am so," Romney could say "Am not" seven times. And that was just in Joliet... in Chicago, Mitt could say "Am not INFINITY!"

Santorum vows to keep the race alive until the nomination. Gingrich is just padding his resume for whatever job he has planned after the country rejects his candidacy, and Dr. Paul seems to be too decent to secure GOP votes.

As someone who has to cover this race over 50 states and several associated territories, I find myself wishing for the inclusion of a "heavyweight" like Sarah Palin... just to make this race more interesting. I'm amazed that the party that has hounded President Barack Obama is unable to put forth a better candidate than the whacked-out Santorum or the out-of-touch Romney.

Santorum needs Romney to kill someone while driving drunk, or maybe even a Plague that people see as a religious omen. Gingrich needs an assassin to start shooting at a debate where Newt is the only one wearing Kevlar. Paul, who I like, needs to retire.

We'll be back with more coverage as the states have their primaries.
