"Step Into Your (Mom's) Wake With Your Blood On My Shirt"
Because a shooting in tony, bucolic Duxbury wasn't news enough for you, we've upped the ante.... the shooting victim is a rapper!
Benzino, real name Raymond Scott, is more Roxbury than Duxbury. However, he was in town attending a funeral for his mother, who was to be laid to rest in Plymouth.
Benzino is perhaps best known for founding The Source, which may have been the first prominent national rap music magazine. It came under fire for allegations of selling 4 mic reviews (sort of like a restaurant getting 4 stars). Benzino also had a prominent feud with white rapper Eminem. I'm pretty sure that Slim Shady has threatened to kill Benzino on tape, although the feud is probably 10 years stopped by now.
Details are scarce, but it seems that Benzino was shot by his own nephew, after some sort of dispute. The shooter's car and Benzino's car came to be side by side, and the perp started letting off shots. Benzi left his vehicle after the shooting, and was driven in another car to the Duxbury fire station for treatment. He was later taken to South Shore Hospital.
Benzino has either a non life-threatening arm wound, or is in critical condition with multiple gunshot wounds, depends on who you ask.
The shooter, Gai Scott, is charged with armed assault with intent to murder. I presume he's in jail in Duxbury.
I'm not sure when Duxbury's last murder went down, it may have been during the shipbuilding era.
We'll be back with an update.
UPDATE: Benzino couldn't be too dead, because he's posting selfies from his hospital room.
UPDATE II: For someone who co-wrote the cop-killing anthem "One In The Chamba," he sure had a lot of cops helping him out today. To be fair, Benzino's lines infer that the one in the chamba is actually for those who would think to run up on Ray while he was selling cocaine. One of the other RSO guys is on the cop-killing tangent.
