Alcoholics "Had" by The Twelve Steps [One Day at a Time]

"If you are an alcoholic who wants to get over it, you may already be asking -"What do I have to do?"

It is the purpose of this book to answer such questions specifically." (20:1)
So here they are--the answers this specific question.*

We had to,

  1.      Be free of anger.
  2.     Stop doubting the power of God.
  3.     Quit playing God.
  4.     Find a power by which we could live.
  5.     Fearlessly face the proposition that either God is everything or else He is nothing.
  6.     Believe in a Spirit of the Universe.
  7.     Abandon antagonism toward spirituality.
  8.     Allow the destruction of self-centeredness.
  9.     Fully concede to our innermost selves that we were alcoholics.
  10.     Have God's help
  11.     Stop fighting anybody or anything.
  12.     Place all outcomes in God's hands.

If you have done all of these things, then you have been HAD by the Twelve Steps.
