Give it a rest already

From the moment he was duly elected by the voters in compliance with the provisions of the Constitution, those who opposed him have looked for a way to either invalidate President Obama’s election, or to have him removed from office. Somehow those who claimed to love the Constitution were looking for ways to get around it.

First he was not the right color. This, somehow, made him less American. There were enough who loved the saying “It’s the WHITE House”, and who carried racist signs at demonstrations to bear this out.

His Mother was born in Kansas while his father in Kenya, and, somehow, this made him un-American, again, in spite of the Constitution. The Birthers wanted to prove that he was born in Kenya which, they claimed, made him a foreigner, again, in spite of the Constitution holding that if you are born anywhere in the world of at last one American parent, you are a natural born citizen.

Ted Cruz needs to watch out for this.

And, we cannot ignore that the strict Constitutionalists wanted to amend the Constitution on the citizenship thing so the Governator could run for the office until his affair became public and his position weakened among the values and “traditional” family crowd.

The president's middle name is Hussein, and in spite of presidents before him using their first, middle, and last names at the inauguration, there were those who claimed his using his middle name was Obama’s way of rubbing it into the faces of our citizens. Very un-American.

And it’s not because the name is odd, after all we have had presidents with such middle name as Walker, Rudolph ,Milhous, Baines, Shippe, Delano, Gamaliel, Birchard, and Knox. It sounded too foreign, and somewhat Muslim.

There were even those who claimed he should resign because he was a secret Muslim. Somehow they seemed to have missed the disconnect between attempting to prove he was an anti-white racist since he allegedly attended the Rev Wright’s church for some 20 years, and his being that secret Muslim.

Of course, even if he was a Muslim, there is no religious test for the office of president.

And as Mitch McConnell stated, the primary objective of the GOP during the president’s first term was to insure there would not be a second.

But all attempts to invalidate the election (he won twice, so a lot of people didn’t buy these canards) seemed to have failed. But there has to be something.

Now, there will be those who will want to ignore reality and rewrite the events of the last month or two, but those centered in reality know that the Republicans were responsible for the recent mess and would be responsible for any problems around the debt ceiling and potential default.

But Republican Louie Gohmert of Texas has convinced himself a debt default would have been President Barack Obama's fault. When he was asked if he would allow the government to default on its debt, his response was, "No. That would be an impeachable offense by the president."

Texas Lt. Governor David Dewhurst running against three other people in the primaries there has said, “This election is about protecting you and your freedoms, which are given to you by God, but which are being trampled on by Barack Obama right now. I don’t know about you, but Barack Obama ought to be impeached."

So that makes two guys from Texas, a state that has been talking about seceding from the United States, bringing up impeachment. But they are not alone.

Republican Steve Stockman, also from Texas, intends to distribute WorldNetDaily’s conspiracy-laden pamphlet calling for President Obama’s impeachment to every member of Congress. He has also hired Bill Olson to see if Obama should be impeached.

Olsen is a member of a Religious Right law firm connected to Christian Reconstructionist leader Herb Titus, who believes Obama is ineligible to be president and supports the imposition of biblical law, and claims it specializes in “biblical wisdom.”

Sounds a little Sharia to me.

Sarah (Look at me! Look at me!) Palin has chimed in with, “Defaulting on our national debt is an impeachable offense, and any attempt by President Obama to unilaterally raise the debt limit without Congress is also an impeachable offense”.

There are right-wing web sites out there also wanting impeachment, as there are also some members of Congress beyond the Texas crowd.

So, having lost every other attempt to remove President Obama from office or prove his elections were invalid, it seems Impeachment is the next attempt at bat.
