The Evacuation Plan

This past Monday the Cape Cod Downwinders had a gathering at the Sagamore Bridge to bring a little known bit of information to people’s attention.

Whether or not you agree that nuclear power is safe, or that the Pilgrim Nuclear power plant is safe and should have been given a 20 year life extension, you have to admit that the evacuation plan for Cape Cod is not a very good one for people living here.

Basically Cape Cod residents, who should have already gone to town hall to get their two potassium iodide pills, are to shelter-in-place until the traffic congestion on the mainland eases up, and then we are to leave the Cape by driving into the danger zone in order to get to the other side of it.

The alternative is to get into a boat and head south or north, or out to sea.

Maybe the people who are upset with the power plant have a point.
