Start Planning & an April Shower Cocktail x 2

      With this being the first week of April it is time we start thinking towards warmer days filled with sun instead of clouds and sand instead of snow. It is time to start planning those vacation trips to the Cape or readying those cottages and summer homes for all the family and friends that want to come and visit. It is time to get the reservations made and start putting those pennies and dollars back to help pay for the extras that you buy or stock up on while you are here, or those special treats of dinners out that you would not necessarily do during a normal week, either you and the significant other or with the family. Get out the old pictures and look at past years to see what you might want to repeat from last year or maybe something to add back in that you have not done in a few years. If like us we have had to put whale watching to every few years instead of what use to be an every other year deal. Get on-line and see what places are still open, what are some new places to check out and places to go. Don't wait till two weeks before you come, let the kids help and ask the teens what they would like to do, it will be a much happier time and they will participate much more if they have an input. Well I guess for this round there is not much more to say, you get the idea, you know what is needed and what needs to be done. We want you to come, we want you to have fun, so what are you waiting for, for someone else to take your place, I think not. Now get to it, and we will be leaving the light on looking for you soon to be here. 

      This weeks business report is a two-fer. First we heard by way of facebook connection with a friend that Bonnetts Bakery and Restaurant, located on 537 Rt 28 in Harwich Port, was open as of Saturday April 2. So we went in with the intention of just getting there famousMeltaways, well we got out Meltaways but ended up staying for brunch. The wife had the omelette special of day and I had the Belgium Waffle with chocolate chips and whipped cream. First the coffee, (they use Beanstock Roastery Coffee out of Eastham), it has flavor, and good flavor yaa, that is a must on a Saturday morning if I am going out. Second the food was delicious and for being the first day open things went very smoothly. If there is going to be a slip that would be the day and time.       On the way home I had not taken the time to really check out the new brewery kids on the block Devils Purse. So since I had a full stomach and few dollars cash in the pocket the wife agreed to stop with me. Now she was going dressed well for it, as she had her Cape Cod Beer shirt on and her South Hollow Twenty Boat Rum light jacket on. Come to find out one of the owners used to work for Truro Vineyards so he was really cool about it, funny thing is she does not drink or enjoy beer, hey just more for me. I did a test flight and was floored by the flavor. You get 4 tastings for 5 dollars and your choice of which 4 you want to try. It gives you a really good chance to try it before you buy it and it is worth every dine. They turn 1 year old in May of this year and are growing in distribution to both on and off Cape stores and restaurants. These guys are going to be here for a while and they are listening to there drinkers and making tweaks to coming brews and just took delivery on a a couple rum barrels from South Hollow for some fun barrel blending. If you are a beer lover I think you will find this brew easy to swallow, Might even use to wash a Meltaway down with,, hmm that gets me thinking... yum.     

      Well the time has come and I must take to the task of tighting this place up. The weather the over the past week has taken a real tole on the old girl and we have more folk expected to come and visit. Although I'm hoping they bring their parkas with them or they might get their noses frost bitten. But even with all the cold the sun has been shining and with that white stuff on the ground and on the roofs it does make for a pretty picture. Ok folks. got to get moving, make sure all the shutters are closed and the doors are locked, make sure the toys and the show pieces are put away and in there place. Make sure the equipment is in their rightful place so if needed they are easily retrieved and last to check on the dory and be sure it is secured and ready to go in a moments notice.       This weeks recipe is what is suppose to be happening that is showers, rain that is, not snow. Not sure what is going on weather wise or who got the calendar turned around but, I wish someone would quite ticking Elsa off. Anyway, we mint not have the spring weather here yet but that does not have to stop us from enjoying a little bit of spring in a cocktail. And thus this months installment of Cocktail of the month: and April Shower. Now this is another one of those recipes that you look up and you end up with more than one variety of cocktail, and some come no closer to one another than the east coast is to the west coast. So take your pick, and this month you will get a two-fer. Ok, you know the shpeel, if you are going to enjoy the spirits please be responsible, either stay where you are at or get a designated driver. Other than that, enjoy all in moderation. Now on with the show.

 
      This week's recipe: April Shower Cocktail - 1
 
      1      oz      Brandy
   1/4      oz      Yellow Chartreuse
      1      oz      Orange Juice
 
      Pour all ingredients into a shaker with ice. Shake well. Strain into a chilled cocktail glass. Garnish with a cucumber slice if desired.
 
      This week's recipe April Shower Cocktail - 2
 
      1      oz      Brandy
      2      ozs    Orange Juice
      1      oz      Benedictine
      3      ozs    Club Soda (approx on the oz)
      2      each  Cherries (use how many every you want)
   
      Add ingredients in a High Ball glass over ice. Top off with the club soda and add the cherries for garnish.
