Sox Bag Tigers, Dice-K Injured

Boston 1, Detroit 0

The Red Sox are suddenly The Team To Beat, after sneaking a one run shutout win over the Deee-troit Tigers. The game suffered a half-hour rain delay, but we got it all in.

Clay Buchholz won a pitcher's duel against Phil Coke. Each took a shutout into the 7th inning, with Buchholz adding drama by striking out Austin Jackson with the bases loaded to end the 7th. Clay scattered 4 hits, and struck out 7 Tigers. Daniel Bard (1-3, 2.86) picked up the win in relief.

Jarod Saltalamacchia bashed an RBI double in the 8th inning, and that was all the offense Boston needed... fortunately.

Tiger is on the menu tonight, too. Josh Beckett (3-1, 1.75 ERA) takes on Justin Veerlander, who threw his second career no-hitter recently. Beckett has never no-hit anyone, but he is working on 18+ scoreless innings.

Boston (22-20) is 20-10 after a 2-10 start. They have won 6 straight games.

The only bad news is that Dice-K Matsuzaka is off to the injured list. He has sprained ligaments in his pitching elbow, and should be shelved til Late June. John Lackey is also on the IR. Tim Wakefield will help take up the slack. welcomes thoughtful comments and the varied opinions of our readers.
