High School Football Predictions For Local Schools

We like to follow the local high school football scene here at the Sports Desk. At the advice of our attorneys, we have refrained from listing the betting lines for these games. However, we can tell you how we think they will turn out, and roughly what the score will be. We're nasty like that.

Most games are at 7 PM, but some schools in the swampy SE Massachusetts part of our reading area have their games starting at 4 PM so as to lower the threat of EEE (Eastern Equine Encephelitas, or something spelled like that). That policy should be out of the picture by the time the first frost comes. We're just having a nice October, weather-wise.

Again, check with local sources before making plans. I got snuffed at the last Duxbury game because of the 4 PM start, and I write the articles.

******************************************************************************************************************

Marshfield at Plymouth North

Marshfield has Plymouth North this week, and Plymouth South next week. As we've noted here before, Plymouth's superpowers don't kick in until we get closer to Thanksgiving.

Marsh Vegas, 28-14

****************

Nauset at Falmouth

Falmouth is having a straight ugly year. They got their first win last week against Sammich, but they wouldn't be 1-6 if they were a threat to win two straight.

Nauset, 14-13

***********

Plymouth South vs #5 Dennis-Yarmouth

DY straight represented last time out, giving Cranston, RI a good ol' fashioned Cape Cod asskicking. Plimmy South are a nice bunch of kids, but DY is taking no prisoners this season.

DY, 30-17

************

Bishop Feehan at Martha's Vineyard... 5 PM start

Feehan has reeled off two impressive shutout wins since starting the year off with 4 sraight Ls. However, they'll be using up all of their Hail Mary's during the boat trip.

MV, 17-14

***********

Bridgewater Raynham (#8) at Dartmouth

Dartmouth was #19 a few weeks ago, before they got tuned up by Barnstable. BR is undefeated since their opening week squabble with Duxbury. Dartmouth seems to be a good team that just got in over their heads.

BR, 21-13

**************

Middleborough at Scituate

Middy has one win this year, while Scituate gave #2 Duxbury as tough a game as a 21-0 score would indicate. I gots to go with my fellow coastal people in this one.

Scituate, 17-10

*************

Pembroke at Hanover

Hanover is a respectable 4-3, but Pemb is undefeated and 4 games away from a perfect season. Not bad for a high school that wasn't a high school 15 years ago.

Pembroke, 21-18

***************

#2 Duxbury at Silver Lake

There could be a 4 PM start here, but it's listed at 7 PM. Duxbury won't kick Silver Lake's ass that badly, as they are neighbors and all. A few people suggested this after the Scituate game.

Duxbury, 27-10

****************

Bourne at Dighton-Rehoboth

Undefeated Bourne has only DR, Wareham, Apponequet and Fairhaven between them and a perfect season. We here at the Sports Desk do not ask but DEMAND a top twenty ranking for Bourne from the Boston Globe. How much more ass do they have to kick? DR is 6-1, and is no joke. They are Bourne's biggest test so far this season.

Bourne, 20-19

*************

Old Rochester at Wareham

Wareham is a fat 4-2, but were shut out by DR last weekend. They'll take it out on a good OR team.

Wareham, 17-12

**************

Carver at Norwell

I worked at Norwell High School for 8 days once. I also student-taught at Carver, and know that Carver kids get superpowers during cranberry harvest season.

Carver, 13-10

*************

Mashpee at Cohasset

Mashpee is undefeated, unchallenged, and is only not in the top 20 because motherf*ckers are hating on Cape Cod. Once they take Cohasset's scalp, suckers gots to know.

Mashpee, 17-15

***************

Barnstable at #3 Mansfield

Barnstable is not ranked, but people take them seriously. They're scoring like 33 points a game, pretty hardcore for a high school that is barely above .500. Mansfield is a machine, however.

Barnstable, 30-28

****************

Cape Cod Tech at Pope John Paul II

I'm liking the Pope here. They should get an elaborate team bus and name it the Popemobile.

Pope John Paul II, XXI-VII

************

Harwich at Fairhaven

The Charwich picked up their first win last week, and are coming back for seconds!

Harwich, 10-9

**************

New Bedford at Taunton

Taunton is 0-6, and should probably try to schedule some smaller towns earlier in the season to build confidence.

New Beffuh, 30-13

*****************

SATURDAY'S GAMES

*******************

11 AM, Nantucket at South Shore Voke Tech

Nanny will make those Voke Tech kids wish they went to a real high school.

ACK, 17-9

**********

Upper Cape at Old Colony

I was very pleased to see UCT score a win a few weeks ago.

Upper Cape, 7-6
