Local High School Football Schedule

Who Plays Whom? And Where?

It may be very nasty outside this evening, so wear the rain gear and so forth. Players... remember that, if your parents come out and sit in the rain to watch you play football or cheerlead or march with the band, it means that they care very much for you and that you shouldn't be all snooty with them when they don't give you the car Saturday night and what have you.

Here's a page that has weather, and here's a current radar shot. Check them out before you go... it could make the difference between a lovely fall evening watching football or a rotten night spent soaked in one parka too few for the wind chill. The weather could still be yucky Saturday morning, so, like, check it again then.

If you plan to go, double check with a source like this for dates and times. I'm sort of rushing to finish this, and I'd hate to have you turn up in West Boylston when I meant to type West Roxbury. We reporters as a group work very hard, and this reporter in particular  just got into the Buddha.

Remember, kids.... this is For Entertainment Purposes Only.

 FRIDAY

Marshfield at Nauset, 7 PM

Nauset, Nauset, shutting off Marsh Vegas like a faucet.

Nauset, 21-17

 Sandwich at Falmouth, 7 PM

Falmouth is in a rough stretch of poor seasons, but at least they won't have to drive too far home after.

Sammich, 30-16

 Somerset-Berkley at Martha's Vineyard, 6:30 PM

SB is having a terrific year, going 6-0 and scoring 254 points against 58 allowed. MV, while also having a fine year, aren't 6-0 and don't have that gaudy point differential. But I bet it's a rotten night for a ferry ride, and this column loves to bet on seasickness.

MV, 13-12

 Hanover at Pembroke, 7 PM

Pemby, just so recently starting a school of their own, are the only team in the state that has been able to hang with mighty Duxbury for a game.

Pembroke, 20-7

North Quincy at Scituate, 7 PM

Quincy is very urban when compared to South Shore coastal towns, and that usually lets them sneak a win on them now and then. It isn't happening in Duxbury, so it's happening here.

NQ, 10-9

#3 Duxbury at Quincy, 7 PM

"All the kids there (Quincy) who can play any sport are at Catholic schools," says El Colonel.

Duxbury, 20-13

 Fairhaven at Bourne, 7 PM

Bourne gave up a tough L last week, and they'll take it out on Popeye's hometown. By the way, the Bourne PA announcer, who sounds like Johnny Most, is one of my favorite people in town, and I promise to know his name the next time I write about him.

Bourne, 10-7

 Rockland at Cohasset, 7 PM

It has been a rough year for both teams, but I'll take the home 'dog.

Cohasset, 19-14

 Dennis-Yarmouth at Cranston-West (RI), 6 PM

It's good for Cape Cod to whip a little Rhodey ass now and then, just to let them know who the Top is down here by the water.

D-Y, 38-7

Bishop Stang at Wareham, 7 PM

Wareham has more than enough weaponry to beat the Bishop.

Wareham, 18-12

Middleboro at Silver Lake, 7 PM

Yup.. I still spell it "Middleboro." I do so because I'm afraid that the yuppies will rise up and I'll have to start calling my hometown "Duxborough."

Silver Lake, 14-13

Randolph at Plymouth South, 7 PM

Some people consider Randolph to be South Shore, but this column just puts them in if they play teams that are at least near one of the bridges.

P-South, 9-6

 SATURDAY

Pope John Paul II at Marian, 1 PM

It kind of looks bad for the Catholics if Popes lose to Marians. It's like that whole comic's bit where it looks bad for the USA that the Soviet Red Army wins Olympic golds while our own Army team loses to, say, William and Mary.

PJP2, 20-19

Upper Cape Tech at Nantucket, 5 PM

UCT is undefeated and asking for- no, DEMANDING- recognition among the top 20 rankings, especially with the improvements they made to the field. Hey... I went to like 20 Bourne Braves games this year, and I sort of love UCT now.

UCT, 21-10

 Whitman-Hanson at Hingham, 1 PM

If Whitman-Hanson were in the Cape League, they could be fair to both towns and enter as Hanson-Whitman, sort of like how D-Y/Y-D does it.

Hingham, 13-12

Carver at East Bridgewater, 2 PM

Note that 2 PM starting time, player.

EB, 14-10

 Mashpee at Abington, 6 PM

High School football is a pretty good Saturday night for Abington. If I were from the other town, however, I'd still choose the Mashpee Ballet.

Mashpee, 21-20

Greater Lowell at Cape Cod Tech, 1:30

If I ran CCTech, heads would roll if the other Tech school on the Cape had a better record... sort of a Yankees/Mets thing ya know?

CCT, 10-9
