Ten Things you should NEVER say at Thanksgiving dinner

I have strong reservations about whether the first Thanksgiving remotely resembled the ‘history’ I was taught in Kindergarten. American holiday traditions tend to include over-eating, shopping, or getting drunk. It’s a miracle that the concept of giving thanks even surfaces at all.

But in the hope of messing up the Thanksgiving feast for you, I offer these ten things to liven up the table-talk today.

  1. I'll pass - I'm on a diet.
  2. Next year let's celebrate Ramadan instead.
  3. I hate Turkey.
  4. I hate football.
  5. What ?! You only have 8 pies?
  6. Let's all go out to a restaurant instead.
  7. Do you have anything besides Turkey?
  8. I wonder whether Massasoit got heartburn after the first Thanksgiving in 1621.
  9. How about us guys cleaning up for a change and you girls watch football.
  10. Honey, are you sure you want that extra glass of wine?

Now why don't you add your "things-not-to-say" below?

And my favorite quote about Thanksgiving is by Jon Stewart who said,

"I celebrated Thanksgiving in an old-fashioned way. I invited everyone in my neighborhood to my house, we had an enormous feast, and then I killed them and took their land."

And I'll end this tirade with a poem:

May your stuffing be tasty
May your turkey plump,
May your potatoes and gravy
Have nary a lump.
May your yams be delicious
And your pies take the prize,
And may your Thanksgiving dinner
Stay off of your thighs!

And a great video.
