Talk by Book Designer Barbara Whitehead

Wednesday, July 23, 2008    07:30 PM

Event: Talk: Barbara Whitehead, book designer and illustrator

Place: Woods Hole Public Library

Date/Time: Wednesday, July 23, 7:30 PM

The Woods Hole Public Library is pleased to present a talk by summer resident Barbara Whitehead who is a book designer in Texas for most of the year. She is known locally for her exquisite water colors of local scenes that appear in the annual Woods Hole Art Show. She has also recently published a book of her own work, focusing on her prints, both wood and linoleum, which provides an insight into a completely different aspect of her work.

Her main work is again a different sort of art: that of the book designer, a behind the scenes and modest sort of art. Yet in this job she acts somewhat like an architect, in charge of the whole structure of the book, not simply the outside.

She will describe her work in this talk, stepping out from behind the covers of the book to tell us about the skills and talents required to create the whole book.

The talk will be held in the Library’s downstairs meeting room on Wednesday July 23 at 7:30 PM and is free and open to the public. For more information, call the Library at 508-548-8961.
