The Barnstable Town Band opens its 63rd season of free summer concerts, Wednesday, June 25 at 7:00 P.M. at the Bandstand on the Hyannis Town Green.
Veteran conductor Paul J. D’Angelo returns for his second season, and has prepared a separate program for each of the ten Wednesday evening concerts. Each week concert goers will hear a great blend of: Marches, Broadway Tunes, Light Classics, Novelty Songs, Children’s Favorites, and Featured Artists; that will delight the very young to the very young at heart. Mr. D’Angelo is a former bandmaster of the U.S. Coast Guard and lifetime music educator and conductor of many community orchestras and musical theater groups. New this year, the band will dedicate several concerts to local community organizations, beginning with the Red Cross on June 25. Brendan McNamara, a Red Cross volunteer, will be singing the Star Spangled Banner to open the June 25th program. The Cape Cod and Islands Chapter of the Red Cross depends on the kindness of volunteers to provide assistance when it is needed-around the clock, and would appreciate any community support. Later in the concert season, the band will ask the audience to join them in celebrating the 90th birthday of trumpeter, Al Madden, one of its most valued players. Al helped to organize this band in 1945 and to this day anchors the trumpet section, remains a source of new arrangements for the band, and is an inspiration to all. For more information on the Barnstable Town Band, please contact Lora Ziemba @ 508-280-9674. To volunteer for the Red Cross, call (508)775-1540, or go to www.capecodandislandsredcross.org. |
