Clifton W. Linnell, 92, of Hyannis, beloved husband of Mildred (Bearse) Linnell died at home on July 14, 2015 of complications from Parkinson's disease.
Born in 1923 to the late Percy and Hilda Linnell, he was a lifelong resident of Cape Cod.
Clifton served in the Air Force and Coast Guard and was a prisoner of war during WWII. When he came marching home in that summer of 1945 he was the hero of the neighborhood. A self-taught man, once back in the U.S. he became an electrician and built a home for his family in Hyannis. He and Mildred were avid square dancers, golfers and huge fans of the Cape Cod Baseball League. A man of many interests, Clifton learned to develop his own photographs, built and flew model airplanes, was a consummate gardener and as his children and grands would tell you, there was nothing he couldn't make with his hands or fix.
He is survived by the love of his life, his wife of 72 years, Mildred; his children Louise Faucher of Hyannis: Linda Leith and her husband Robert of North Reading, MA; Lesley Blais and her husband David of East Lyme, CT; and Larry Linnell and his wife Shasta of Marstons Mills. He was predeceased by his son Lee who died in 1990. He and Mildred had 7 grandchildren and 9 great grands.
A wake will be held at the John Lawrence Funeral Home on Saturday, July 25th from 3 - 5 pm for those wishing to say a last good bye. Following the wake, there will be a military service beginning at 5 pm. Burial will be private.
In lieu of flowers, please make donations in Clifton's name to his treasured Yarmouth-Dennis Red Sox, PO Box 78, Yarmouth Port, MA 02675.
