Kathleen M. Kelleher Downs

Kathleen Kelleher Downs, 71, of Falmouth passed away on Saturday, July 11that McCarthy Care Center in Sandwich after a brief illness. Kathy was the beloved wife of Mark Downs for 30 years.  He was the love of her life and their mutual devotion was a joy to behold. Kathleen was born in Marlborough, MA to John and Lillian Kelleher. She grew up in Marlboro and graduated from St. Ann’s Academy.  She later moved to Florida to work as a Vista Volunteer.  She returned to Marlboro for a short while and then moved to Colorado. After Colorado she returned to MA, attended UMass Boston and worked at Fidelity for many years.  She later moved to San Francisco.  She eventually moved to New York when she married Mark Downs where she continued to work in Information Technology.  During all these years Kathleen stayed close to her family and was very devoted to her nieces and nephews, playing a central role in their lives.  Upon retirement she and Mark moved to Falmouth where she enjoyed many interests and activities.  Kathleen volunteered at the Falmouth Service Center and, as an avid reader joined two book clubs. She and Mark enjoyed traveling and entertaining their large families and were particularly famous for their sunset picnic parties at Old Silver Beach creating fantastic memories of fun and family love.  An element of her legacy is the importance of celebrating life with those you love. Kathleen had a quiet wit and playful sense of humor. In addition to her husband, she is survived by her step-daughter Yvonne Downs of Pocconos, PA. Her five sisters:  Terese Rader and husband Gordon of Falmouth, Elaine Hinckley of East Longmeadow, Eleanor Silva of Falmouth, Anne Hart of Falmouth, and Mary DiRienzo and husband Gerry of Marlborough.  Her two brothers:  John Kelleher and wife Patty of Marlborough, Richard Kelleher of Marlborough, and sister-n-law Nancy Kelleher, widow of brother Paul Kelleher who pre-deceased Kathleen.  Over 30 nieces and nephews and a grandniece and 3 grandnephews and many in-laws.
