Boy Scouts Council Annouces Upcoming Cape Cod Summer Activities
Cape and Islands Council of the Boy Scouts America unveils several exciting summer programs
YARMOUTH PORT - The Cape Cod and Islands Council of the Boy Scouts of America announces several exciting upcoming programs that you will not want to miss!
2008 Chuck Wagon Derby May 30-June 1: Chuckwagon is a lot of things - Fun, Travel and Adventure! Each Cub Scout pack will design their own "Chuck Wagon" and travel to different "cities" to participate in fun and learning activities! Every Cub Scout will have a chance to show off skills and do his best as your wagons roll from one fun City to the next. Cost: $10 per person ($45 camping fee applies to units camping). Registration: On or before May 16 at the Council Service Center at 247 Willow Street, Yarmouth Port, MA 02675.
Cub Scout Day Camp, July 7 - August 8: 5 weeks of action packed days filled with swimming, boating, shooting sports, BMX bicycling, games and more! The best summer child care option on the Cape! A special week is offered on Martha's Vineyard August 11-15. Cost is $165 per person per week and registration can be done online at www.scoutscapecod.org or by mail at 247 Willow Street, Yarmouth Port, MA 02675. All payments are due by June 13.
Project North Star, July 7 - August 8: This special program is for boys who have recently joined a Boy Scout Troop, are going into 6th or 7th grade, and want an opportunity to build up their basic camping and outdoor skills. There will be an overnight camp each Thursday. Cost is $165 per person per week.
Family Camp, August 1-3: Our annual family camp weekend allows families to come and enjoy a weekend at Camp Greenough. Cost: $30 per person, maximum $120 per family. Price includes all meals.
Wild Wednesdays, July 9 -August 6: Scouts 13 and older are invited to Camp Greenough for special one-day programs including Project COPE ropes courses, kayaking, and mountain biking. Cost: $40 and includes lunch.
Cape Cod Maritime Adventure Treks, beginning June 22: The Treks are designed for Sunday afternoon arrival, return on Friday, and departure on Saturday morning. Cape Cod Maritime Adventure is open to Scouts, Venturers and other young adults who are at least age 13. The cost for the Outer Cape Trek is $560.00 per person. The cost for the Island Hopper Trek is $660.00 per person. Fees include meals, program equipment, transportation, scheduled activity expenses and a participation patch. Every participant must have a current medical examination (within one year) from a licensed medical practitioner. Participants must be in good physical condition and be able to pass the BSA Swimmers test. Check out www.scoutscapecod.org/camp/maritime.html for more information.
Maritime Adventure Mini-Treks, July 6, 13, Aug 3: Three day programs will feature many of the same activities as the full week Maritime Adventure. Three-Day treks may include swimming, salt-water fishing, sailing, and kayaking. Costs are $200 for in-council Scouts and $250 for out-of-council. Participants must be at least 13 years old, pass the BSA Swimmer requirements, and may sign up individually or as a group.
Project COPE: Our new and improved ropes course is available for your unit or organization! The experience will help to build teamwork and leadership skills. The course is comprised of a series of outdoor challenges, beginning with basic group initiative games, and progressing to more complicated low course and high course activities. Some of these events involve a group effort, while others test individual skills and agility. Participants climb, swing, balance, jump, rappel and think through solutions to a variety of challenges. There is also an opportunity for scouts 16 and over to become instructors-in-training and help staff the course in the future.
