Centerville Yoga & Wellness Center--"Empowering the Community"
CentervilleYoga & Wellness Center--“Empowering the Community”
How do you create sanity in your life in a world that sometimes seems crazy?
We hear terrible stories everyday like people facing foreclosure or going without heat in the winter because the price of home heating oil is not in their budget; people sending their loved ones off to Iraq or Afghanistan; drive-by shootings; unspeakable harm being done to children; environmental devastation.
Yoga and Combating Stress in Your Life
When we think of yoga, we don’t necessarily think of learning skills which can help us adapt to the stresses in our lives. We tend to think of yoga as a means of stretching and relieving strain in the body.
In a typical yoga class, a student is apt to encounter the physical practice of the poses as well as how to breathe, and guided meditation. As we learn to relieve tension in our bodies, we also learn how to change the physiological states we experience when stressed simply by breathing more deeply and fully. When we learn to breathe deeply from the belly, we come into contact with chemicals called “anandamides”--these are chemicals which produce peaceful, blissful states in the body.
So as we learn mindful movement coupled with conscious breathing, we learn skills that help us to combat the stress in our lives. Yoga certainly is not a panacea for relieving pain and suffering--it can however empower people of all ages and fitness levels.
Taking Charge of Your Health
Annika Iliadis, founder and owner of Centerville Yoga and Wellness Center, is also a shining example of someone who is making her vision of what is possible into a reality which is benefiting her community. Annika is committed to empowering the community to take charge of their health and well-being through many types of yoga and wellness workshops.
Imagine a beautiful sunlit yoga studio with hardwood floors where you can enjoy beginners, childrens, seniors, advanced, pre-natal, baby & me, or even beach yoga at nearby Covells Beach at Craigville. In addition, you can book bodywork sessions, acupuncture, foot reflexology, psychotherapy, infrared sauna treatments or just come in and browse the Artisan Studio.
The Center is also home to the only Yoga Alliance-Approved Teacher Training Program on Cape Cod, where just recently 19 Yoga Teachers were born. Annika feels great knowing that these teachers are all going out into the world to spread the feeling of joy and happiness.
All of this richness has been created by one woman following her heart and being true to her pathway on her yoga journey. Annika hopes you can see that this is an opportunity available to all of us, no matter our circumstances.
