Conservatory Offering Many New Classes for Just for Adults
WEST BARNSTABLE -- The Cape Cod Conservatory in West Barnstable is significantly expanding its roster of music and art classes for adults. The courses, offered at the Conservatory’s West Barnstable campus, will start later this month and will range from a multi-week courses on Broadway, opera, jazz, music or appreciation, among others.
“This represents a major expansion of our offering for adults,” said Conservatory Executive Director Jeff Myers. “We have historically done a great job of serving the youth of the area. These new courses in art and music will also provide the Cape’s adult population with exciting new choices to expand their passions.”
MUSIC COURSES
For classic music lovers, Maestro Royston Nash (right), the Cape Cod Symphony’s Artistic Director Laureate, will provide his unique insights into how orchestra instruments create their sounds. A reception with the Maestro follows the two-hour presentation. For anyone who has ever listened to a symphony orchestra, this class will provide great insights into how it all happens.
Dr. SharonRose Pfeiffer will host a class on the fundamentals of music, discussing various musical styles and periods, touching on the music of the Renaissance, Baroque, Classical, Romantic and Contemporary periods. The class includes a trip to a Boston Symphony Orchestra rehearsal. It’s a perfect opportunity for anyone who loves music to learn to love it even more.
The many Opera buffs on the Cape will gain unique insights from Berklee Professor Berke McKelvey’s course on the History of Opera. He’ll cover opera’s early beginnings, the Romantic period as well as contemporary opera. There are ample videos and recordings of operas to bring this most popular form to life.
For popular music lovers, John Hagon, another Berklee professor and conductor of the Cape Orchestra, will present the history of Broadway. In two 12-week sessions he will explore this truly American art form from its roots through today. The course includes extensive video presentations of original shows, with lots of fascinating behind-the-scenes secrets.
And those who would rather sing those fabulous show tunes, Dru Sunderman has developed Guys and Dolls. This new vocal group is dedicated to the music of The Great White Way. No prior experience is necessary – just come for the fun of it!
