The inaugural 5k Walk To Remember, sponsored in part by Cape Cod Broadcasting and it’s four radio stations WQRC, WOCN, WKPE and WFCC, is set for 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 17, 2011, at Dowses Beach in Osterville, MA on beautiful Cape Cod. The event is a 5K walk that raises awareness for ovarian cancer through the Ribbons To Remember Foundation.
The walk is in memory of Sheryl Skerry who passed away in June 2011, a Cotuit resident who had, but was unaware of the symptoms of ovarian cancer until she had only 5 weeks left to live. Her daughter, Diane Riche founded the Ribbons To Remember Foundation to educate and raise awareness of the “silent” ovarian cancer symptoms in hopes of preventing any other women and their loved ones from enduring the pain and heartbreak that is ovarian cancer.
Pre-registration for the walk is available online at www.ribbonstoremember.org and by phone at 508 827-1212. Registration, including a t-shirt and gift bag for the 1st 500 participants, is $25 for an adult walker through Sept. 10 ($30 registration after Sept. 10). Registration is free for youth walkers ages 12 and under. Walk-day registration will begin at 9:00 am. Volunteers and sponsors are still needed for the event.
Secured sponsors for the 1st Annual 5k Walk To Remember for Ovarian Cancer include Emerald Physicians, morphotek, Hannoush Jewelers of Cape Cod, Vermillion, and O.P.I., Centerville Corners Inn and H&R Block Yarmouth. Several area hotels and inns are offering discounted rates for traveling participants.
