The 4th annual Polar Bear Plunge will be held on New Year's Day at Bank Street Beach in Harwichport. The event was started in 2010 by Belinda Bachand to honor her father, Marvin Nadler.[[nid:1683]]
The very popular New Year's event raises funds for clients of Hope Dementia & Alzheimer's Services, an affiliate of HopeHealth.
Registration begins at 11:30 a.m. and the plunge starts at noon. Last year 250 people attend, with 75 braving the ice cold waters of Nantucet Sound.
There is a suggested donation of $20. Pledge sheets are available at HopeDementia.org or by calling 508-775-5656. All proceeds will benefit free support services and respite grants for families served by Hope Dementia & Alzheimer's Services.
Men, women and children are encouraged to particpate. A prize and recognition will be awarded to the top fundraiser.
There will be refreshments at the Land Ho! in Harwichport following the plunge.
