Wellfleet town election May 4

Voters to consider candidates for ten positions

Wellfleet residents will head to the polls Monday, May 4 for the town's annual election. Twelve residents are vying for ten positions. Candidates in all but one category run unopposed. 

Daniel R. Silverman, moderator, is running for reelection. If reelected, Silverman will serve for another year. Two candidates, Janis R. Plaue  and Jill Ellen Putnam, both members of the Wellfleet Elementary School Committee, are running for reelection. If both reelected, they will each serve for three more years. Library trustees, Jane P. Baron and Robert L. Shreefter, are both running for election. If reelected, bot will serve three more years. David Martin Agger is running for reelection as Wellfleet's cemetery commissioner. If reelected, Agger will serve another three years. Gary Sorkin is running for reelection on the town's housing authority. If reelected, Sorkin will serve another five years. 

Sarah Pechukas Slivka is running for a three-year term on the housing authority. Pechukas Slivka was appointed to the housing authority in December after Mary Fontenarosa resigned. 

The true race this year is for selectman. Four people are running for two three-year terms, and only one of the four is running for reelection. Current selectman Dennis D. Murphy is up against Richard M Elkin, Timothy G. O'Hara and Helen Miranda Wilson.

The polls will be open on May 4 from 12 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Wellfleet Council of Aging, 715 Old King's Highway.
