Truro voters to tackle eight articles at November 5 special town meeting

Residents to consider banning single-use plastic bags and landfill leasing

The Town of Truro will hold a special town meeting on Thursday, November 5 at 6 p.m. at the Truro Central School. During the meeting, attending residents will consider a warrant containing eight articles.

The first three articles on the warrant pertain to solar photovoltaic energy. Article One would give Truro selectmen the authority to lease sections of the the Truro landfill for the installation of a solar photovoltaic array.

Article 8 calls for the banning of single-use plastic bags. Should voters approve the ban, the goal would be to phase out single-use plastic bags by March 31, 2016. In April, Provincetown officially banned single-use plastic bags. That same month, Wellfleet voters decided to ban the bags as well. The ban, according to Article 8, was proposed "in keeping with our neighboring communities and the Town's commitment to Green Communities."

The November 5 warrant is available for review on the Town of Truro website here.
