Editor's note: Just a reminder that the detours will be in effect 24-hours-a-day beginning Monday, January 4, 2016.
A detour around Muddy Creek on Route 28 in Chatham went into effect Monday and will remain in effect through December 4. The Town of Chatham put the detour in place for the Muddy Creek Restoration Bridge Project.
While work is being done, a small section of Route 28 near the Harwich town line will be closed to through traffic between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. through Friday, December 4. Local traffic will be allowed access during construction hours.
The detour will run from Route 28 to Old Comers Road to Old Queen Anne Road to Church Street to Pleasant Bay Road, back onto Route 28 in Harwich. There is an alternate detour for trucks. Truck drivers will be detoured down Old Comers Road to Old Queen Anne Road to Route 39, back onto Route 28 in Orleans.
A presentation on the project was made before the Chatham and Harwich Conservation Commissions in April. The project which includes a newly-designed bridge, is expected to improve the condition of the 56-acres of wetlands in the area. See that presentation here.
See the detour map here. Beginning January 4, 2016, the detour will be in effect 24-hours-a-day.
