With voters giving a new fire department building the green light, Brewster selectmen have created the Brewster Fire Station Building Committee. Selectmen are seeking five volunteers for the new committee.
Committee members will be charged with working with the owner project manager, architect, town administrator, fire chief and other interested parties. The committee will ensure that town's new fire station will be built with quality materials, on time and within budget.
The Brewster Fire Station Building Committee will manage, review and approve all aspects of the project including the final site designs and floor plans, the development and issuance of RFPs (request for proposal) and final punch list.
Members will report directly to the selectmen and provide periodic project updates. Members will also be charged with providing recommendations for interior design and determining the feasibility of renewable energy as a power source for the new building.
The committee will remain in operation until construction and all contractual obligations are complete and a certificate of occupancy is issued for the building.
Residents interested in applying for the committee must complete a "Serve Your Community" form and return it to Susan Broderick in the Selectmen's Office.
Voters approved the building project during a special town election on December 1. The $13M+ project passed by 26 votes, with only 20% of the town's voters heading to the polls.
