Marguerite S. (Rheaume) Lapointe, 96, of Avon died peacefully on Feb. 16, 2016 while surrounded by her family. Marguerite was the loving daughter of the late Leo and Genevieve (Lanoue) Rheaume.
She grew up in the South Dartmouth and attended St. Hyacinth’s School. She married the late Normand A. Lapointe on May 30, 1948, raising their children in the South End of New Bedford. Her family was very active in the St. Ann Parish and School. When her youngest was in school, Marguerite started working at Cornell-Dublier Manufacturing where she worked for 16 years. In 1993, she and her husband moved to Avon for retirement and they were communicants of St. Michael’s Church. Marguerite was a skilled seamstress who loved making dresses, costumes, and clothes for her family, especially her grandchildren. Marguerite never lost her special touch with babies and as her kids starting having children she became an integral part of raising them.
She was also fond of playing cards, being with her friends, and never complaining despite her ailments. She was the loving wife of the late Normand A. Lapointe and devoted mother of Paul A. Lapointe of Irvine, CA, Claire M. Lapointe of Lakeville, Anne M. Watson and her husband John of Bridgewater, and Norma J. Lapointe of N. Attleboro. Proud “Memere” of Clayton, Jennifer, Evan, Julienne, Laurie, Gail, Sean, Tyler, Meghan, Celia, and the late Thomas; great grandmother of four. Marguerite had five siblings, the late Irene, Raymond, Armand, Eugene, and Celia . She also leaves many nieces and nephews that she loved so dearly.
Family and friends are invited to the Chapman, Cole & Gleason Funeral Home, 2599 Cranberry Highway, Wareham on Fri. Feb. 19th from 8:30am to 9:30am. A Mass of Christian burial will be held at St. Margaret Church, 141 Main St, Buzzards Bay at 10:00am. Burial will be held at the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne at 2:00pm.
