Harwich resident Robert A. Spidle (Bob), 69, passed away on Sunday, March 13, 2016 surrounded by his loving family at the McCarthy Care Center in Sandwich, after a brief but courageous battle with bile duct cancer. He was born in Boston on September 21, 1946, the son of Charles and Anna (Curran) Spidle. He was raised in Lexington and graduated from Lexington High School in 1964.
In 1969, he married his sweetheart, Margaret (Peggy Malone) Spidle. Together they moved to the Cape, where Bob earned his Master Plumber’s License and worked for several plumbing and heating companies before starting his own business. Bob was most happy when spending time with his children and grandchildren. He loved gardening, reading and being of service to others. Over the years, Bob volunteered for numerous charitable organizations including: The Harwich Disability Rights Committee, CHAMP Homes, and the local community garden and food bank. Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 46 years, Peggy, of Harwich; his daughter Margot Cahoon, her husband Shawn and grandsons Max and Jake of Centerville; his daughter Andrea Hennigan, her husband Tom and grandchildren Caroline, Cormac and Mairead of Dedham. Bob was predeceased by his brother John Callahan and his sister Marie Kirkland.
Also surviving are brothers Charles Spidle of Bedford and Lawrence Spidle of Easton, and sister Lois Scannell of Concord, NH. Calling hours with the family will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, March 18, at Morris, O’Connor and Blute, 678 Main Street, Harwich Center, MA 02645.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated by clergy from St. Mary of Magdala Ecumenical Church On Saturday, March 19 at 11 a.m., at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, 310 Route 137, East Harwich, MA 02645.
