Herbert L. Olofsson, a retired manager at Western Electric Company passed away peacefully on April 1, 2016. He was the husband for 59 years of the late, wonderful Helen (Venblad) who passed away in 2001.Born in Boston he attended Boston University and Northeastern University where he earned his Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration.Mr. Olofsson began his career with Western Electric in 1936. Assignments took him to various locations in the United States, Europe, Japan and Southeast Asia. He was accountable for the Quality Administration at Ocean Cable Factories throughout the world starting with the first Transatlantic Cable System in 1956. He was the company's European representative in London, England in the late 1950's and retired in 1983 after 47 years of service as manager responsible for the quality of products purchased for the Bell System.He also served in the U. S. Army Air Corps as a pilot from 1932-1945 finishing his service as a B29 Super fortress Airplane Commander.He was appointed as President of the Harry B. Thayer Chapter of the Telephone Pioneers of America in New York, Vice Chairman of the United Way of Union County, New Jersey and was a member of St. Mary's Episcopal Church in Barnstable, Massachusetts.Herb is survived by his loving family and their spouses; children, Janice McNamara, Barry Olofsson and Carol Puzzella; grandchildren, Kevin and Derek McNamara, Brian Olofsson, Christine Olofsson Rhodes, Melissa Myers, and Rachelle Solomon; and great grandchildren, James and William McNamara, Garrett and Matthew Olofsson, Riley McNamara, Ronnie Solomon, Helen, Mary and Sarah Rhodes and Owen and Jackson Myers.Visitation will be held at the Doane, Beal & Ames Funeral Home,729 Route 134, South Dennis, MA 02660 on Tuesday, April 5th from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. The funeral service will be held at St. Mary's Episcopal Church, 3055 Main St., Barnstable, MA 02630 on Wednesday, April 6th at 12noon followed by interment at the National Cemetry in Bourne, MA.In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made either to the McCarthy Care Center, 73 Service Road, East Sandwich MA, 02537 or to the Dennis Fire Department, 883 Main St. West Dennis, MA 02670.
