Susanne (Kallusch) Carstensen
Susanne “Sue” Carstensen, 67, of Osterville and Nakomis, Florida passed peacefully April 4th surrounded by her family at her home in Osterville.
She was born in Syracuse, New York and was the daughter of the late Howard and Emily Kallusch. Sue grew up in Cazenovia NY and attended the Pebble Hill School. She was the valedictorian of the graduating class of 1966. She continued her education receiving her degree in education from Lesley University. Sue summered with her mother and sister on the cape where she met Warren “Sandy” Carstensen whom she married in 1971. Sue and Sandy settled in Osterville where they raised their three children.
When her children entered school, Sue opened the art gallery “Birdsey” on the Cape in Osterville specializing in local artists. She devoted over thirty five years to the development of the gallery which became a landmark in the village. Sue was known for her love of her pure bred English cocker spaniels which were always in attendance at the gallery.
Sue was an avid reader and traveler to exotic locations around the globe. When not in the gallery she could be found sunning at her pool immersed in the latest best seller.
Sue is survived by Sandy, her husband of 45 years and her three children Warren ”Kris” Carstensen of Atkinson NH, Robyn Boyer and her husband David of Nokomis FL and Matthew Carstensen and his wife Erin of Osterville MA. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Emily, Elizabeth, Chase of Atkinson NH and Jack and Kathryn of Osterville who affectionately knew her as “Grammy Dog”. Also surviving is her sister Janet Burke of Sandwich MA and her brother Howard Kalusch of New York.
A celebration of her life will be held at St Peter’s Church, Osterville on Saturday April 9th at 11 O’clock.
In lieu of flowers Sue would enjoy donations to MSPCA animal shelter or VNA of Cape Cod.
