Involved in promoting tourism? Apply for C&I license plate funds!

From County Commissioner Ron Beaty

As many local residents are aware, we have our very own Cape Cod and Islands license plate.

According to the informational website for the plate (, in addition to promotion of tourism,  "plate revenues support grants, loans, the arts, environmentally compatible economic development programs and the growth of our year-round economy."

Since I have a sincere and strong interest in the economic well-bring of all of our Cape Cod towns, from Provincetown to Bourne, I would like to suggest that the respective town-based organizations and town boards focused upon promoting local tourism might want to consider applying for a grant for license plate funds through the Cape Cod Economic Development Council, and the Barnstable County Commissioners.

I would like to further suggest that perhaps the overall goal of any such endeavor might be to explore establishing more economic opportunities during the winter months when the local economy our Cape towns takes a severe downturn, and there are few decent jobs to be found.

Further information about the Cape & Islands license plate program, and applying for funding, may be obtained by contacting:

Cape Cod Economic Development Council, P.O. Box 227, 3225 Main Street, Barnstable, MA 02630,

Email:  [email protected]

At the end of the grant application process, the final decision to allocate funds for various projects is made by the Barnstable County Commissioners.

Thank you.
