Letter to the Editor:
I participated in the January 3rd Barnstable County Delegate's public hearing to, like many other Cape Codders, weigh in on our Sheriff's 287(g) agreement with the federal government.
While I found some of the Delegate's positions conflicted with mine, only Deborah McCutcheon, the delegate from Truro, took it upon herself to openly share that she no longer feels pride in our flag. I feel strongly that a government official at a public hearing making this statement was both reckless and dispicable to those who serve in our military, and the families that support them. Her statement speaks volumes of her inability to put her personal political agenda aside, and ensure all the laws that define our society are follwed.
Many cape families have sons and daughters in the military that are deployed in harms way, fighting for the same flag she appears to easily disrespect. If she truly no longer feels pride in our flag, she should resign from our government immediately, and consider moving to a country that better aligns with her values. From what I learned about Delegate McCutcheon last night, Europe would be a good fit. Open borders with the associated frequent terrorist attacks, a failing single-payer healthcare system, $8 gas, U.S. Military protection funded by deplorable U.S taxpayers, and a 40% income tax. All heaven for a Cape Cod liberal activist.
In closing, I would like to swap Delegate McCutcheon for my son who is currently deployed, to open her eyes to what real service is, and what our flag stands for. If she wasn't stabbed, shot, blown up, or beheaded, she would return with a renewed sense of pride for our flag.
Adam Lange, Brewster
