From Yarmouth Selectman Candidate Joe Glynn:
What Motivates You? Why are you running?
I run to motivate others to gain civic pride and to vote, so as to honor those who have sacrificed for those freedoms!
I have always been motivated by profiles in courage by leaders of all forms, in service to our country's freedom. Military Heroes, Public Safety, and Political Heroes! I have met and known many who have changed and saved lives and I have watch remarkable families show the same incredible class and example.
I have been moved by those who have been generous in their spirit to show us all how to move forward and honor of these heroes by making our community a better place.
My family, friends, and compatriots have been amongst those heroes. I have learned to be Army Strong, Boston Strong and Yarmouth Strong! I have seen Semper Fi Marines, Boston Fire Department , Dorchester Martin Richard, and Cape Cod Civic Pride amongst close friends, brothers in arms, and family. Their dedication and protection of me and my family motivates me to do more! I run so people will vote to honor those who have sacrificed!
What separates you from your opponents?
I am challenging incumbents who feel they are shoe ins! It has been very difficult not to point out the litany of problems that have gone unresolved and the years of unsuccessful accomplishment of their own priority list, when they have set them at all, while trying to run a positive campaign. I have suspended my campaign to be consistent with the outpouring of community unity.
I communicated that these profiles and an abbreviated Town Meeting with Election Day greetings would be my only low keyed attempt to canvas.
That said the town's recent showing is in spite of the lack of leadership and any attempt to take credit for others performance is a lot of Hocum and not so much Holcomb.
This list and litany of ongoing problems persist. School Communication, Capital Funding, Mismanagement of everything from Golf to Trash Contract, from the Cavalier Property times 9 and as many years a mess 9 (Incumbents 6 & 9 years) and ignorance of any past capital progress and 0 accomplishments that can't be qualified!
The Rec /Sailing , Town Manager controversy's and no progress on everything DY from Regional agreement to budgets to MMS School Capital projects, feasibility cost, and all this while incumbents claim to be financial and negotiating experts.
Each of the examples represent Millions (Cavalier over $6 Million in suits, payments, incentives, credits and all of these add up to hundreds of millions of dollars! If one adds the Parkers Drive-In times 4-6 iterations and even more years we are still just naming a few examples!
Poor performance and over budgets are not success, and do not bode well for the future without leadership change and a new vision and direction!
I have supported the Selectman in the past, but it seems they are going through the motions and their lack of fervor has been evident for sometime. They want video attendance so it is no wonder they have no thoughts on getting people to town meeting and elections. I do and have shared but the arrogance that they are secure insulates them from paying attention to The townspeople. Unfortunately low turnouts means they just have to appear to be affable they stay in.
It's time for new blood, new spirit and bold new leadership with vision and direction!
"Pay Attention People" and Vote!
