Might you be interested in becoming a member of the Barnstable County Human Rights Commission?
This volunteer body, comprising nine Commissioners appointed by the Board of County Commissioners, together with representatives of the fifteen towns of the County and the Mashpee Wampanoag tribe, was established in 2005.
Commissioners are appointed on rolling three-year terms. At this time, we are seeking to appoint three Commissioners to serve until December 2020, and one Commissioner to complete a term which ends this December (but who may apply for appointment to a three-year term beginning in January 2019).
We hope that the Commission can be reflective of the diverse communities which make up the County: diverse, for example, in terms of age, (dis)ability, economic circumstances, gender, gender identification and sexual orientation, linguistic background, race.

We hope that interviews for select candidates, with a joint panel of representatives of the County’s Health and Human Services Advisory Council and the Human Rights Commission, will take place during the first week of June.
The names of those recommended for appointment will be submitted to the Board of County Commissioners. We hope the process can (barring unforeseen circumstances) be completed by the end of June.
