Editor's Note: The driver accused of texting while driving in this incident is Gina L. Giovangelo, who was convicted in the 2010 hit-and-run death of wheelchair-bound Lillian White of Hyannis. Giovangelo was convicted of hitting Ms. White and leaving her to die. Parts of White's wheelchair were found in the dumpster at the motel where Giovangelo was staying. Giovangelo fled the courthouse while awaiting a hearing and remained at large for a few days before police caught up with her. See the related content links below for some accounts of Ms. Giovangelo's desperate escapades at that time. Part of the plea deal at the time was a 15 year loss of license, yet here we have Gina Giovangelo driving a rental car and happily texting away.
