Nantucket Police to Hold Citizens Police Academy

The Nantucket Citizens Police Academy is set to start on Thursday, September 13th. This is the 9th session of the popular community class. The ten-session academy will cover many of the different aspects of policing including department operations, OUI enforcement, SWAT, patrol tactics, narcotics, domestic violence, beginning with an introduction to the department. The three-hour classes are held on Thursday nights 6:00 – 9:00 p.m..

The classes are taught by NPD officers. Participants will have the opportunity to meet many of people on the force including detectives and command staff. 

In addition to classroom sessions, participants have the opportunity to go on a ride-along with a Nantucket police officer and fire a police issued pistol at a local gun range.

Interested citizens are encouraged to fill out an application, available online and at the police station on Fairgrounds Road. All applicants must pass a criminal background check.
