From the Wareham Department of Natural Resources:
On Tuesday, August 28, 2108, Wareham Department of Natural Resources was called to a home in the vicinity of Crooked River Road, Wareham, by a resident reporting a live bat in the yard. The bat was contained by WDNR and sent to the Massachusetts Department of Public Health - Rabies Laboratory per protocol for testing. On August 30, 2018, the Wareham DNR was notified by Mass DPH that the specimen tested positive for rabies and was disposed of in their facility.
This is the only confirmed rabies case for 2018 in Wareham, however we urge everyone to make sure your pets are up to date on their rabies vaccine and tagged accordingly. If you are in doubt, check with your veterinarian.
