Monomoy Dollars for Scholars is pleased to announce 2 new scholarships for Continuing Education Students.  The Jean A. Young Memorial Scholarship of $500 is in memory of Mrs. Jean Young, former Chatham Middle School secretary and former co-president to Monomoy Dollars for Scholars.  Young was devoted to all students and worked tirelessly to secure funds toward students’ college success.  She motivated people around her to work to the best of their ability.  Because of her hard work, Monomoy Dollars for Scholars has continued to thrive.  This scholarship in her name is available to graduates of Monomoy Regional High School who are entering their 2nd, 3rd or 4th year at any college/university or vocational school.

There will be two Great Expectations Scholarships of $2,000 each.  These scholarships are awarded as a tribute to James Lightbown who emigrated from England to Massachusetts in 1893.  A cotton cloth weaver by trade, mostly self-taught, with interests in literature, foreign languages, and economics, James had “great expectations” for himself and his family.  The Great Expectations scholarships are a testament to his courage, intellectual curiosity, and strong commitment to self-improvement.  It will be awarded to a  continuing education student who clearly demonstrates these qualities, is a Harwich resident, and has chosen a college/university major in English/Comparative Literature, Foreign Languages, or Global Studies/International Relations/International Affairs (including their component disciplines).

These scholarships are competitive and renewable for students graduated from Monomoy Regional High School. Over $37,000 is available for this year.
