The Sandwich Arts Alliance proudly opens the fourth season of its popular Village Concert Series with “music to move to” as the Cape Cod Conservatory Jazz Band performs at Sandwich Town Hall on Saturday, September 22nd at 7:00 PM.

Under the direction of Tyler Newcomb, some of the finest musicians on the Cape will perform music from the big band era and the early years of rock n’ roll to the hits of today. Count Basie, Duke Ellington, Stan Kenton and Glen Miller, to name just a few luminaries, are typically among the ensemble's repertory.

This is Tyler Newcomb's thirtieth year leading the band, which counts professors from Boston's Berklee College of Music among its members. Mr. Newcomb himself studied music education at both the California State University, Long Beach, and Arizona State University.

What makes the Cape Cod Conservatory Jazz Band special? "That we’ve been together and rehearsing every week for the past thirty years, consistently improving", says Mr. Newcomb.

Dennis Flaherty handles vocals on hits from Frank Sinatra, Bobby Darin, Dean Martin and many more. According to Newcomb, “this retired school teacher is a gifted natural and the best I’ve heard in a long time."

Tickets are available online at www.sandwichartsalliance.org or at Splash Stationers on Route 6A, Sandwich. General Admission is $25 ($10 for students) or save with a Series Subscription of $80 for all four Village Concert Series performances.

The Village Concert Series consists of four performances over the next eight months.  In November it’s an open mic night for classical musicians of all ages with Monika Woods and Friends. In February, Mike Block, a pioneering cello player, singer, composer, and educator will perform; and in April, back by popular demand and considered one part Rat Pack, one part Rosie Clooney, Suede will impresses us with her “set of pipes”.
