Letter: State Rep. Tim Whelan is Experienced and Effective

from Richard Koch, Brewster

Letter to the Editor:

I’ve spent about 40 years as a registered Democrat. My leanings are still to the center/left. But I wanted to be able to vote for the person, not just by party affiliation, so I changed my status to unenrolled several years ago.

As a Brewster resident for more than 30 years, I have come to appreciate our State Delegation. My State Representative is Tim Whelan of Brewster. Like Tim, I, too. worked in policing for decades.

Some have criticized Rep. Whelan for only supporting law enforcement in his time as a Legislator. While he has been a staunch supporter of first responders, he has done much more. I have called upon Tim for many other issues such as extra parking at Crosby Beach in Brewster, along with Route 6A repaving and sidewalk improvements. But my requests on behalf of the Community didn’t stop there. When the Cape Cod Museum of Natural History called about improving safety for those crossing 6A, Tim came out and met with us on site and that led to changes done by MassDOT. He did the same thing when Latham Schools called about a passing zone in a crosswalk to their property.

But what really makes Tim Whelan so special, rising above others, is his ability in bi-partisan ways to coordinate with Rep Sarah Peake and Sen. Julian Cyr and get things done for the Town and the District. Brewster is fortunate to have such great representation on Beacon Hill. Please join me in voting for all three in November!

Richard Koch, Brewster
