The Cape & Islands District Attorney's Office announced Tuesday that the Supreme Judicial Court has upheld the first-degree murder conviction of Robert Vacher.
In November 2011, Vacher was convicted of the brutal slaying of 16-year-old Jordan Mendes in Hyannis in December 2008. Mendes had reportedly been stabbed and shot and his body had then been moved to another location and burned.
During an appeal, the Supreme Judicial Court rejected two claims brought forth by Vacher's attorney, that Vacher was prejudiced by testimony given at his trial by immunized witnesses and that Vacher was entitled to suppression of his statement to authorities and evidence found in his car.
Vacher will remain in prison without the possibility of parole, according to the DA's Office.
Former Assistant District Attorney Lisa Edmonds was the led prosecutor in the 2011 trial. Assistant District Attorney Julia Holler prosecuted the appeal.
