Veterans Day on Cape Cod

Cape Cod honors our country's veterans, their service and sacrifice

Veterans Day is officially celebrated on November 11. The first Veterans Day was celebrated on November 11, 1919 and was known as Armistice Day. It marked the anniversary of the end of World War I. Congress made it an annual holiday in 1926 and it became a federal holiday in 1938. Until 1954 Veterans Day was known as Armistice Day until President Eisenhower official changed the name.

There will be several ceremonies honoring veterans across Cape Cod on Tuesday, November 11. Some events were already held this weekend.

Ongoing Events through Veterans Day

The public is welcome to visit the 2nd annual Field of Honor in South Dennis through Veterans Day. Operation Flags for Vets also placed 57,000 flags at the graves at the Massachusetts National Veterans Cemetery in Bourne this weekend.
