Barnstable announces new 18-month transfer station sticker

Sticker cycle to transition from calendar year to fiscal year

The Town of Barnstable this week announced a new 18-month transfer station sticker. The sticker will cost $210.

The Barnstable Department of Public Works will also be transitioning the sticker cycle from a calendar year (January to December) to a fiscal year (July to June), according to the town's website.

The annual transfer station sticker in 2014 was $160. The new 18-month sticker reflects a $30 savings, due to the application of reserves to counter increased waste management fees. In August the Town of Barnstable entered into a contract with New Bedford Waste Services for the off Cape disposal of solid waste. The town's cost of $37.50 per ton of trash increased to $55 per ton plus transportation. According to the town, this is the most competitive contract on the Cape.

After a 2015 sticker is purchased at the beginning of the year, the next time a sticker purchase will be necessary is July 2016. welcomes thoughtful comments and the varied opinions of our readers.
