Barnstable issues dinghy DOs and DON'Ts

Vessels left on certain town property between now and April 15 will be considered abandoned

Earlier this month, the Town of Barnstable issued a notice to all dinghy owners in town: if your dinghy is where it shouldn't be, it might not be your dinghy any longer.

According to the Barnstable Harbormaster, no one may leave or store a dinghy on town property between November 15 and April 15 where it is clearly posted that they may not do so. Dinghies or other vessels left behind in these areas shall be considered abandoned and will be disposed of at the discretion of the harbormaster.

The only exception to this rule is if a dinghy owner gets written permission from the harbormaster proving a need and that the dinghy is actively being used.

Abandoned dinghies may be scrapped or disposed of in another manner, according to a notice issued by the harbormaster.
